United India Insurance Company(UIIC)

An insurance provider controlled by the Indian government, United India Insurance Company is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was incorporated on February 18, 1938, and became a federal entity in 1972.

In the past, it belonged to the General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC). However, with the IRDA Act 1999’s designation of GIC as a re-insurance firm, its four principal insurance subsidiaries—New India Assurance, United India Insurance, Oriental Insurance, and National Insurance—acquired autonomy as of March 21, 2003.

The firm was created by the merger of United India Insurance Firm Limited and twelve Indian insurance companies, four co-operative insurance societies, five foreign insurers with operations in India, and the general insurance activities of Life Insurance Corporation of India’s southern area.

The merger of United India Insurance Company with Oriental Insurance and National Insurance Company Limited was announced by the Indian government on February 2.
