United India Insurance Company Limited

An insurance provider controlled by the Indian government, United India Insurance Company is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was founded on February 18, 1938, and became nationalized in 1972.

In the past, it belonged to the General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC). However, as a result of GIC’s conversion to a re-insurance firm under the IRDA Act of 1999, its four principal insurance subsidiaries New India Assurance, United India Insurance, Oriental Insurance, and National Insurance gained independence as of March 21, 2003.

United India Insurance Company Limited was formed by the merger of twelve Indian insurance firms, four cooperative insurance societies, five foreign insurers with operations in India, and the general insurance activities of Life Insurance Corporation of India’s southern area.

The merger of United India Insurance Company with Oriental Insurance and National Insurance Company Limited was announced by the Indian government on February 2.
