Indian Council of Medical Research

One of the oldest and biggest medical research organizations in the world is the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is responsible for formulating, coordinating, and promoting biomedical research in India.

The Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on behalf of the Government of India, provides funding for the ICMR. The Clinical Trials registration – India, India’s national registration for clinical trials, was created by the organization in 2007.

The 26 national institutes that make up ICMR focus their research on particular areas of public health, such as tuberculosis, leprosy, cholera, diarrhoeal diseases, viral illnesses like AIDS, malaria, and kala-azar, vector control, nutrition, food and drug toxicology, reproduction, immuno-haematology, oncology, medical statistics, etc. Its six regional medical research centers focus on local health issues,They also seek to develop or expand research capacities throughout the nation’s many regions.Research on major non-communicable diseases like cancer, cardiovascular diseases, blindness, diabetes, and other metabolite disorders is prioritized by the council in line with national health priorities like control and management of communicable diseases, fertility control, maternal and child health, control of nutritional disorders, development of alternative strategies for health care delivery, and containment of environmental and occupational health problems within safe limits. These initiatives are made in an effort to improve population health and well-being and lessen the overall burden of disease.
