Northeast Frontier Railway
One of the 19 railway zones of the Indian Railways is the Northeast Frontier Railway or NFR. Its headquarters are at Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam, and it is in charge of running and expanding the rail network in all of the Northeastern states as well as certain areas in eastern Bihar and northern West Bengal.
History
The 65 km (40 mi) long, meter gauge Assam Railway and Trading Company line from Dibrugarh to Makum was first opened in 1881. Later on, this business launched the Dibru-Sadiya Railway, Assam’s first passenger train. The Assam Railway and the Oudh and Tirhut Railway were combined to become the North Eastern Railway on April 14, 1952. In order to better serve the requirements of the northeastern states, it was split into two railway zones on January 15, 1958: the North Eastern Railway and the Northeast Frontier Railway.

The five divisions of the Northeast Frontier Railway are as follows:

- Division of Alipurduar Railway
- Railway division of Lumding
- Railway Division of Rangiya
- Division of the Tinsukia Railway
