A production division of Indian Railways is located in Varanasi, India, at the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), formerly known as the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW). In March 2019, DLW ceased producing diesel locomotives, and in October 2020, it changed its name to BLW.

It created the WDAP-5, the nation’s first bi-mode locomotive, in March 2019. Today, BLW primarily manufactures the WAP-7 and WAG-9 electric locomotives.
