After the Furnace in SMS was commissioned, the Plant was finished in August 1969. Thus, the total crude steel production capacity of HSL was increased to 3.7 MT in 1968–1969 and then to 4 MT in 1972–1973 with the completion of the 2.5 MT stage at Bhilai, 1.8 MT at Rourkela, and 1.6 MT at Durgapur. In 1978, IISCO was acquired as a subsidiary, and in 2006, the two companies amalgamated.

In order to fulfill the goal and determination of the Government of Bihar to construct a High Performing Knowledge Institution modeled after the concept with which the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) was formed in 1979, the Development Management Institute was established on February 13, 2014. Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, instructed authorities at a meeting that was attended by members of the core committee to finish hiring teachers for the institution by March 2014 so that academic work may start in the upcoming academic session, which runs from July to August 2014. In June 2014, the first class began their studies. In Bihta, a 15-acre campus is being constructed.
