Government Medical College, Ongole formerly known as RIMS Ongole is in the city of Ongole, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. It was established in the year 2011. GMC Ongole is one of the best medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

All the courses offered are approved by the competent authority. History
The foundation stone for the medical college was laid by Late. Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 01-07-2007. The Institute was named as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ongole, and established as a semiautonomous institute under Act 31 of 2007 spread over 37.23 acres. RIMS has been converted to “Government Medical College” with effect from 28/12/2018 vide G.O, M.S No. 232 HM & FW (A) dept.
- The first batch of the M.B.B.S course was started with 100 students during the academic year 2011-2012.
- During 2019-2020, Twenty additional seats were added under the EWS Quota.
- Post Graduate courses were initiated in the year 2018, in 3 departments viz; Physiology, Pharmacology, and Microbiology with 4 seats each.
- In the year 2021, Two seats were added to the Department of Psychiatry.
- A letter of intent for postgraduate course seats was received from NMC for one seat in Respiratory Medicine and two seats in forensic medicine.
- The application was submitted for NMC for new 79 postgraduate seats.
The emblem of Government Medical College depicts the significance of medicine and its relationship with nature powered by patriotism.
- The Government Medical College, Ongole along with the three characteristics of the modern-day medical practice of “science, art and research” embraced in the circles depicting the tricolor – Outer saffron, Middle White, and Inner Green represent nationalism. The circles indicate the wholesome of life.
- The Caduceus primarily derived from Greek Mythology is an extension of Asclepius’ (Greek God of Medicine) serpent winding around the staff. The serpent is often considered a sign of wisdom as per Indian mythology. The two serpents intertwined indicate balance and harmony, which are the essential qualities of life.
- The opened-up wings attached to the staff are an indication of freedom and quality of flying high with the sky as the limit.
- The cloud in the blue color represents serenity, stability, inspiration, and health.
- The cloud in the Green color represents our closeness to nature.
- The rising sun symbolizes empowerment, knowledge, and goodness.
