 SSC

The Government of India’s Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a body responsible for hiring people for a range of positions within its different ministries, departments, and subordinate offices.

This commission, which reports to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), is made up of a chairman, two members, and a secretary who also serves as the exam controller. His position is comparable to that of an additional secretary in the Indian government. Out of the 22 official languages of the Indian Republic, the SSC decided to hold the Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff Examination for the first time in January 2023 in Urdu, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Konkani, Meitei (Manipuri), Marathi, Odia, and Punjabi in addition to Hindi and English.

In its 47th report (1967–68), the estimates committee in the parliament advocated the creation of a Service Selection Commission for holding tests to hire lower categories of positions. Later, on November 4, 1975, the Indian government established a body known as the Subordinate Service body inside the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms. The Subordinate Services Commission changed its name to Staff Selection Commission on September 26, 1977. The Indian government revised the duties of the Staff Selection Commission on May 21, 1999, through the Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances. The revised Staff Selection Commission constitution and duties thereafter went into force on June 1st, 1999. The Combined Graduate Level Examination is administered annually to select non-gazetted officials for a variety of government positions.
