Union Public Service Commission

(UPSC)

The Union Public Service Commission, often known as UPSC or ISO: Sagh Lk Sv yg, is India’s top central hiring body for all Group ‘A’ officials employed by the Indian government. It is in charge of conducting interviews and exams for Group “A” jobs at a number of central government institutions, including the central public sector undertakings and the central autonomous organizations. The prime personnel agency in India is the Department of Personnel and Training.

The Services Under the Union and the States section of Part XIV of the Indian Constitution grants the agency its charter. The Constitution requires the commission to make appointments to the Union and All India Services. The Government must also confer with it with issues including hiring, moving, promoting, and disciplining employees. The panel can advise the government through the President, who it reports to directly. However, the Government is not obligated by such advise. Along with the nation’s higher court and, more recently, the Election Commission, the UPSC, which is a constitutional body, is one of the few institutions that functions with both autonomy and freedom.

The commission has its own secretariat and is based out of Dholpur House in New Delhi. Since 5 April 2022, Dr. Manoj Soni has served as chairman of the UPSC. Established on October 1st, 1926, as the Public Service Commission, it was then reorganized as the Federal Public Service Commission by the Government of India Act, only to be renamed the Union Public Service Commission that it is known as today after the country’s independence.
